But the second option is my flash drive, however it will not let me select it or even format it from this screen. The first one is the EFI thing that only has 300mb. When I get to that step it only shows two options: Drive 1 Partition 1, and Drive 1 Partition 2. In the guide that you sent me, I noticed that there is a Drive 0 unallocated space, but my USB does not appear like that.

I'm assuming that once Bootcamp formatted my USB, the stuff that is in the USB now is the Windows installer material. I choose the USB, click continue, and Bootcamp does its thing for formatting.

Basically these are the steps I followed: I run bootcamp, it says i need to create a bootable USB drive for Windows 10 installation, so I need to select the ISO image and where I want the destination to be. The Windows installer is on the separate flash drive. Sorry, I think I might have misspoke earlier (I'm not too familiar with the terminology quite yet). There are also certified Windows To Go USB drives you can get. I’d suggest using an external drive with an SSD or HDD. It kills the flash drive faster too since it’s not designed for this. I have tried this before and it is quite slow. Here’s a photo of my boot options with rEFInd as my boot loader.Īlso, I wont advise using a flash drive for Windows. I’d recommend using other boot loaders such as Clover or rEFInd. Essentially, you’d want to have the boot files on the EFI System Partition (ESP) of your flash drive. After installation, next step would be creating the boot files. Make sure to select your flash drive (your 128GB flash drive).

Follow this guide to install Windows via DISM. After which you have to boot to the installer by holding Alt and choosing the USB installer on start-up. What you have to do is to make a bootable Windows installer on a separate flash drive. First, Boot Camp doesn’t allow installation to an external drive. If I understood it correctly, you want Windows to run on a flash drive. They were just as lost as me.Īny help is appreciated, thank you ahead of time. They could not clarify if the issue may be that it is 3.0 flash drive and not 2.0 flash drive.

The last advice I got from them was that the issue might be the flash drive, but I explained it was a brand new HP flash drive ordered through Amazon. What do I do? I've been on the phone with Apple on three separate occasions about this and no one has been able to come to a solution. I try reformatting the flash drive to NFTS, then going through bootcamp process again, only to have bootcamp reformat the flash drive back to the ExFAT format that cannot be read by windows. When I click on my flash drive, it says it is not in NTFS format and therefore cannot be selected.ĪND that is where my issue is. It gives me two options, the IFT /EFT drive partition (which is only like 300 mb) or my flash drive partition (which has 115 gb free). I then get to the final step, where it asks me where do I want to install windows. I go through the steps of selecting a language and so on. I click the IFT drive option and it loads up the windows installer.

#HOW TO REFORMAT MACBOOK PRO BOOTCAMP MAC#
I restart the mac, hold the option key while booting back up, and up comes up the Mac drive and the IFT drive (I think thats what it is called? It might be EFT or something like that, but it won't let me double check). Once the process finishes, I notice the format of the usb states that it is ExFAT. I open bootcamp, it recognizes the flash drive and it auto formats everything to get the flash drive ready. I already downloaded the latest iso file for windows and everything. It is a 3.0 usb, not sure if that matters. I have a Macbook Air 2015, so I could partition the Windows installer on the mac directly if I wanted to, but I simply do not have enough space on the Mac itself to do this. I am at my wit's end, so maybe someone here can help me. So I've been trying to get this issue resolved practically the whole day, and I still have not come to a solution yet.
